When we thought about making a sweatshirt for THE, the first thing that came to mind was the loopwheel sweatshirt fabric.

The loopwheel sweatshirt fabric is made in Wakayama Prefecture, famous for its loopwheel knitting machines, of which only a few hundred are said to still exist. A loopwheel knitting machine is an old-fashioned knitting machine that knits knit fabric loosely, like hand-knitting, without forcibly pulling the yarn. While production efficiency is low, it is characterized by its durability, resistance to deterioration, and the ability to create soft fabric that you can truly appreciate the more you wash it.

This loopwheel fabric is knitted with a flexible special yarn made by using American Pima cotton and minimizing skewing caused by twisting during the spinning stage.

The sewing and pattern research is done by Maruwa Seni Kogyo Co., Ltd., a cut-and-sew manufacturer with 60 years of experience. Starting its business with underwear, the company's unique pattern research and sewing technology, which are tailored to the movements and posture of the body, have been highly evaluated, and in 2010, its products were selected for the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA)'s spacecraft clothing.
